A king came to him sitting in a chariot and holding his hand said that he would hire the child with his power. All his energy was wasted and he sat in his chariot and went away.
In the second stanza the poet said that it was very hot in the afternoon and the doors of the houses were closed. He was wandering down a crooked street. An old man came to him with his bag of gold and after thinking very carefully he said that he would hire that child with his money. The old man weighed his coins one by one but the poet turned away on hearing his offer.
In the third stanza, the poet saw that there was evening time and the hedge of the garden was full of flowers. A beautiful maid came out of the house and told him that she would happily hire him with smile. The maid’s smile turned into tears and she went back into the darkness. The sand was shining due to the sunlight and the waves of the sea were also shining. The poet saw a child playing with shells and when the child raised his head and said that he had been hired for nothing. Explanation
